In business we all wear three different hats
We wear the Technician hat, the Manager hat and the Entrepreneur hat.
The challenge for most business owners is that they often spend too much time wearing the Technician hat – doing what they are good at, related to delivering their core skills and the reason they started their business. This is a role many business owners are comfortable with and tend to spend a lot of time in. They don’t put their Manager hat on often enough and the running of the business gets neglected.
Alternatively, they focus too much on wearing the Manager hat – they get bogged down in the admin and operational aspects of running the business – all the “stuff” that comes with a business. They may get too caught up in these aspects to the detriment of their business, as they do not spend enough time delivering their technical expertise and earning money.
But most business owners spend little, if any, time wearing the Entrepreneur hat – using strategic thinking, planning and looking ahead in their business.
I make my clients wear the Entrepreneur hat and schedule time into their diaries to do that strategizing and planning to ensure that they are working towards their businesses’ goals for them and their families.
It is important to get a balance between the three hats and not neglect the Entrepreneur in you.
So….what hat do you wear the most – and how often do you put on the Entrepreneur hat?
